    Water: ¾ cup, to help the sugar dissolve and create syrup.

    Sliced strawberries: 1½ cups, fresh and vibrant for best flavor.

    Maple syrup or honey: 3 tablespoons, for additional sweetness and flavor.

    Hull and halve the strawberries

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 cup granulated white sugar
    • ¾ cup water
    • 1½ cups sliced strawberries
    • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
    • 3 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
    • A pinch of freshly ground black pepper
    • A pinch of freshly ground white pepper

    Method
     

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C fan bake.
    2. Hull and halve the strawberries and place them in a large bowl.
