1 cup milk: Fresh whole milk adds creaminess to the custard.
2 very ripe medium bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful the custard.
½ teaspoon vanilla: Pure vanilla extract enhances the flavor profile.
2 large egg yolks: These provide richness and help thicken the custard.
¼ cup granulated sugar: Sweetens the custard perfectly.
1 tablespoon cornstarch: Aiding in achieving that smooth, thick texture.
1 tablespoon butter at room temperature: Adds a rich depth of flavor to the custard.

In a small saucepan simmer mashed bananas, milk and butter.
