Condensed Milk Truffles

If you're looking for an easy chocolate treat that feels a little more special than ordinary fudge, these condensed milk truffles are worth trying out. They’re rich, fudgy, wonderfully chocolatey, and require just a handful of ingredients.

This is also one of those nostalgic recipes that’s fun to make with family, and are perfect for parties, gifting, or satisfying a chocolate craving- like my condensed milk brownies.

This recipe is a family favorite, and we always make it during the holidays- just like my no bake carrot cake bites and cranberry goat cheese truffles.

They're perfect to make and serve when you're entertaining, and can be made a day ahead of time too.

What I Love About this Recipe

  • You only need four simple ingredients to make these, and you don't even need to turn on the oven.
  • The truffles are easy to shape once the mixture has cooled enough to handle, and they’re great for parties, dessert platters, or edible gifts.
  • You can change the coating depending on what you have available- like I do with my pecan snowball cookies.

Recipe Ingredients

Sweetened condensed milk: The base for the truffles.

Semi-sweet chocolate chips: For that extra chocolate flavor and richness. I used these for my Air Fryer S'mores dip too.

Cocoa powder: Intensifies the chocolate flavor, and also for the outer coating.

Vanilla extract: Adds warmth and rounds out the chocolate flavor.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Use milk chocolate chips for a sweeter, creamier truffle, or try dark chocolate chips if you prefer a deeper chocolate flavor.
  • Roll the finished truffles in chopped nuts instead of cocoa powder. I like roughly chopping up my brown sugar walnuts and using them here!

How to Make Condensed Milk Truffles

Step 1: Add the sweetened condensed milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips to a small saucepan.

Step 2: Add cocoa powder and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate melts. Take off heat and let it cool down.

Step 3: Lightly grease your hands and gently roll small portions of the mixture between your palms to form balls. Roll each truffle in cocoa powder and set aside.

Tips and Tricks to Nail the Recipe

  • Stir the mixture continuously while it cooks to prevent it from sticking or burning and use medium heat rather than high heat so the chocolate mixture heats gradually.
  • Keep the truffles relatively small so they’re easy to eat as bite-sized treats. I always do this when I make coconut Bon Bons too.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly before attempting to roll it and grease your hands lightly before shaping the truffles.
  • If you're making these as a gift, arrange them in a decorative box or small paper candy cups- like I do when I make Yema balls.

How to Serve Condensed Milk Truffles

Serve these truffles as a simple after-dinner treat, alongside coffee or tea, or as part of a dessert platter along with some honey walnut cream cheese dip or peanut butter fugde.

They also make a lovely homemade gift when arranged in a decorative box or small candy cups. For parties, you can use different coatings to create a colorful assortment of truffles.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

How do I store leftover condensed milk truffles?

Store the finished truffles in an airtight container. Keep them in a cool, dry place for short-term storage, or refrigerate them if your kitchen is warm. If refrigerated, allow them to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving so they soften slightly.

Why is my truffle mixture too sticky?

The mixture needs to cook until it becomes sufficiently thick. If it is still very loose after cooking, continue heating it gently while stirring constantly until it thickens.

Can I make condensed milk truffles ahead of time?

Yes. They’re a convenient make-ahead dessert because they can be shaped and coated before serving. Store them properly in an airtight container.
